Nigerian rapper Remilekun Safaru popularly known as Reminisce recounts how a radio station rejected him and his colleague 9ice's CDs because they sang in Yoruba.

While speaking to Zikoko, the self-acclaimed Alaga Ibile recounted his major rejection stating how he and Nigerian singer 9ice went to Brilla FM to submit their CDs for promotion and they were rejected.

On getting there, Reminisce said they submitted their CDs for a listen. After a while, they came back saying they were not fit to be a musician. He revealed that 9ice was told that he sang like a "babalawo". Reminisce was told that he rapped like a local artist and was advised to emulate his fellow rapper Rugged Man.

"We were asked to go back and find something to do with our lives. That was my first major rejection. I can never forget.", he added.


Remilekun Abdul Khalid Safaru popularly known as Reminisce is a Nigerian rapper and songwriter born on 26th January 1981. Reminisce was born in Kaduna but hails from Yewa South, Ogun State. He recorded his first rap album in 2006 but the album was never released. In 2008, he featured on 9ice's song "Bachelor's Life". His two albums Baba Hafusa and El-Hadj are the first two rap albums to debut on the Billboard charts.

Aside from acting, Reminisce is skilled in acting. His role as "Makanaki'' in the blockbuster movie "King of Boys" received a lot of accolades and gave him the ability to showcase another side of him completely different from his musical prowess. Reminisce is married to Iya Hafusa and they have two children together, Hafusa and Fatimah Safaru.

Alexander Abolore Akande popularly known as 9ice is a Nigerian singer and songwriter known for his use of indigenous Yoruba language and his use of adages. 9ice was born on 17th January 1980. He gained recognition with his song "Gongo Aso" in 2008 and went on to win numerous awards that same year at the MTV Africa Music Awards and Hip Hop World Awards. His songs "Gongo Aso", "Wedding Day", "Street Credibility", "Gbamu Gbamu", "No Be Mistake", "Living Things", "Party Rider" among others are one of the most evergreen songs in Nigerian history.
