2023 AFCON hosts Cote D'Ivoire sank into a six-hour power outage as the continental football showpiece entered matchday eleven.

A report shared by Nigerian football Photo Journalist, Pooja, confirmed the shocking development.

Ivory Coast enjoys 24/7 power supply and would not lose bearing on proactive measures to ensure steady power supply throughout a continental showpiece as AFCON.

Unexpectedly, it happened as major parts of the country were suddenly submerged in acute darkness due to power outage.

As per reports, all cities hosting all AFCON matches were affected by the outage, including which hosts Group A matches involving the host country.

Eyewitnesses revealed the power failure lasted over five hours raising concerns on the smooth running of the tournament which is about to enter its 12th day.

It is still unclear what led to the disruption of electricity but there have been speculations the cause may not be far from Ivory Coast's heavy defeat to Equatorial Guinea in their final group game as the disruption occured immediately after the game.

The Ivoriens suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea leaving their 2023 AFCON hopes on the frays. They have missed out on the top two spots in Group A to seal automatic qualification to the next round of the competition, and will be hoping to fall among the best four third -placed teams in the group stages to be seeded in the next round.

While it is difficult to link the sudden power outage to the Ivorien's AFCON deadlock after the defeat to Equatorial Guinea, local organizers of the competition will be expected to offer a detailed explanation of the sad development.

As of the time filing this report, electricity has been restored on all affected cities but investigations are on to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the incident.
