Aston Villa have registered interest in Manchester United transfer target Timo Werner as the club looks to reinforce their attacking position.

Both the English top-flight clubs are striving to strengthen their forward as they hope to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League football next season.

However, Aston Villa may face competition from Manchester United who are also willing to sign the RB Leipzig Timo Werner on loan in the January transfer window.

The Old Trafford have been linked with several strikers including Mauro Icardi, Donyell Malen, and Serhou Guirassy but the club's financial status might hinder any big-money signing.

According to several reports earlier this month, Timo Werner was identified as another man Erik ten Hag was eyeing as a short-term solution to their scoring difficulties.

Several Man United forwards are currently struggling to hit the back of the net, with Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, and Antony bagging just four Premier League goals so far this season.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery's Aston Villa are now also in the race to leap in and secure a loan deal for the 27-year-old Timo Werner.

The German International spent two seasons at Chelsea, scoring just 23 goals in 89 outings, before returning to the RB Leipzig he had initially left in the summer of 2020.

But that has not put Unai Emery off making a move to bring him back to England,

The 27-year-old has struggled for playing time at Leipzig so far this season, scoring two goals in 14 appearances having started only four matches.

And Aston Villa are keen on a mid-season signing who can deputize for star striker Ollie Watkins as they search for glory in the Premier League and Europa Conference League.

What's next?

It remains to be seen which of the clubs will secure the acquisition of Timo Werner as the second phase of the season is drawing near.
