Chelsea supporters were left in confusion as Mauricio Pochettino was seen avoiding the club's owner Todd Boehly.

What happened?

The American billionaire was present at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 25, during his side's heartbreak loss at the hands of Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The 64th League Cup final looked forced for a penalty shootout but Virgil van Dijk's effort was enough to send the Reds through, nodding home Konstantinos Tsimikas’ 118th-minute corner to help Liverpool claim the title.

The clash was loaded with moments of drama and controversy from beginning to end, with Raheem Sterling and Van Dijk both having goals chalked off by VAR in regular time.

Cody Gakpo and Conor Gallagher were also on target as the two struck the woodwork before the match reached extra-time, however, the two side managers went through all the emotions on the touchline.

A visibly distraught Pochettino seemed close to tears after the full-time whistle and the Argentine still had to do the dreaded walk to collect his runners-up medal after he was denied his first ever trophy in English football.

As he made his way along the long line of officials and dignitaries, Pochettino was noticed completely ignoring a red-faced Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s owner and chairman, who happened to be left stunned.

Fans online were satisfied that the 51-year-old Argentine walked directly past Boehly before shaking the hands of the officials next to him, but slow-motion replays show that isn't the case.

The former Tottenham Hotspur reached out his left hand and recognized Boehly with a handshake, but was rightfully sporting a displeased look on his face due to the match outcome.

Chelsea supporters took to social media after spotting the 'snub' and claimed that the former PSG boss had done it on purpose.

One misunderstanding fan wrote: "Pochettino just totally blanked Todd Boehly…"

Another added: "Nice ignore from Boehly to Poch on the walkway. Sacked in the morning I think the song goes".

While other fans struggled to notice that Pochettino had certainly shaken the hand of his boss.

One wrote: "He shook his hand with his left hand!"

Another added: "Literally shook with his left hand".

Analyzing the game while commentating for Sky Sports, former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville labeled Pochettino’s team "billion-pound bottle jobs".

Since Boehly took over Stamford Bridge in 2022, Chelsea have spent more than 1 billion pounds on buying players but are yet to win any silverware and find themselves languishing down in seventh position in the English Premier League table this season.

Pochettino could be forgiven for looking saddened as he watched Liverpool lift the first piece of silverware of the season.

But his side perhaps should have done more with their billion-pound squad against an inexperienced academy players in the Liverpool team.

What's next for Pochettino?

There's a lot for the Argentine to think about now as the London club returns to action on Wednesday, February 28, to battle Leeds United in the FA Cup fifth round.

And the pressure will only continue to increase on the former PSG manager if he is unable to advance to the next round with fans already calling for his dismissal after Sunday's cup final defeat.
