The former Tottenham manager has been the frontrunner for the position of Chelsea manager since Graham Potter was dismissed.

The negotiation lasted several weeks and it is believed that the Argentine tactician has secured a greater say in transfers and other aspects of the day-to-day running of the club.

Recent reports have it that the 51-year-old will bring his full backroom team with him to Stamford Bridge.

His long-serving assistants Jesus Perez and Miguel D’Agostino, as well as goalkeeper coach Toni Jimenez and sports scientist son Sebastiano Pochettino, will all join him at West London.

Pochettino has been out of work since he left PSG in July last year and he previously worked at Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham.

Tottenham fans will not be excited with such news as they hope the boss who guided them to the Champions League final in 2019 might return to their club.

But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy never made any contact with the Argentine who could have considered returning to the club.

The Former PSG and Tottenham manager will now take full charge at Stamford Bridge instead.

Chelsea will make an official statement by the start of next week with Pochettino taking over in the summer.

Frank Lampard who is Chelsea’s caretaker manager will see out the rest of the season in charge and Pochettino might be in the stands to watch Chelsea play before the campaign reaches its conclusion.

Erik ten Hag did something similar before he became United coach, he watched the Red Devils play at Selhurst Park.

Chelsea’s final match of the season – at home to Newcastle – could be Pochettino's prime time to watch the squad he will inherit in person.

Chelsea are looking to offload several players this summer as they have a heavily bloated squad.

Reports have it that there’s a chance Pochettino will be given the chance to offer his opinion on every possible exit before any decision is made.

The Blues might not have a big budget to spend in the summer given that they have spent around £600million already in the last year under their new owners

Pochettino will not be tasked to get the best out of the players who have underperformed to such an extreme extent this season.

And the Argentine will also be tasked with developing the club’s young, up-and-coming talents – something he has a track record of doing dating back to his time in charge of Espanyol.
