A man has been reported dead at the ongoing contraction of Everton Football Club’s new stadium on site at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Liverpool police confirmed that a 26-year-old died in an hospital following the incident, which happened around 1pm on Monday, 14 August, 2023.

According to the Merseyside Police spokesperson, “His next of kin have been told, and an investigation is under way.”


“Officers remain at the scene as we continue with the early stages of the investigation alongside the Health and Safety Executive.”

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust’ spokesman also revealed that they sent an ambulance, an air ambulance and a response vehicle to the scene

Following the Everton FC’s stadium incident, he added: “A patient was taken to hospital by road.”


Everton’s spokesperson in a statement confirmed that the club was “heartbroken by the news”.

“The thoughts and condolences of everyone connected with Everton are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this unimaginably sad time.”

The Premier League side stated that contractor Laing O’Rourke had launched an investigation and will collaborate with the police and also Health and Safety Executive “to establish the full details of the incident”.

Everton FC’s stadium, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed before the 2024-25 season, which will resume in August 2024.

The new stadium, which has an estimated build cost of around £500m, is reportedly going to seat 53,000 fans, when completed.

When completed also, it will then be named as the Everton Stadium.

The club will move to the new stadium from their historic stadium, Goodison Park, a place they have played their home games since 1892.


The new site which is Bramley-Moore Dock was chosen back in 2018 after a public consultation of more than 20,000 people and they got a 96% feedback.

Everton saw their plans hit with massive criticism from UNESCO, which saw Liverpool stripped of its World Heritage status.

This was majorly because of the developments in the city’s waterfront which included the Everton’s new stadium.
