FA Charges Manchester City Over Players Inappropriate Reaction

Manchester City faced a new challenge following their players' reaction during their Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, 4 December, which ended in a 3-3 draw.

The brawl which came as a result of a free-kick awarded to City in stoppage time by Referee Simon Hooper, led to a protest by City players during the match, as Jack Grealish was already looking forward to a Big chance against Spurs' Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The defending champions have however been charged by the Premier League Football Association, over a breach of FA rule 20.1 as city players surrounded Simon when he halted gameplay even though he had awarded an advantage to them initially.

The UEFA Champions League defending champions have been handed an ultimatum to give feedback to the FA now till December 7.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland did not only display his outburst during the encounter over Hoopers’ controversial decision he also went on his X (formerly known as Twitter) quoting a clip of the scenario with a comment “WTF”.


This despite being offensive was not charged by the FA as their main concern is with the club for allowing gross misconduct amongst players during the match.

Pep Gaurdiola’s side is currently on their third consecutive draw as they were only able to secure 1 point each against Chelsea and Liverpool in the past weeks.

This has placed City 3 points and 1 point respectively, below the current league toppers Arsenal and second placed Liverpool.

Despite the 3-3 draw, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola expressed belief in his team as he disclosed during a post-match interview that he was greatly impressed by his team's performance.

Although the game ended in a deadlock, Spurs successfully broke their third consecutive loss in the Premier League, and they are currently placed 5th in the league table with 27 points in 14 games.

The controversies in the game did not restrict the Goal galore as the first blood of the game was dropped by Tottenham captain Son Heung-Min, who also brought City into the game with a deflection into his net.

With an assist from Julian Alvarez, Phil Foden placed Manchester City into the lead before the end of the first half.

Giovanni Lo Celso leveled the game less than 20 minutes into the second 45 minutes of the game, while Manchester City winger Jack Grealish with an assist from Erling Haaland, gave the Citizens the lead again making it 3-2 at 81 minutes, a deadly assist from Brenan Johnson to Dejan Kulusevski helped spurs levelled the game at 3-3.

Tottenham Hotspur Gaffer Angelos Postecoglou in the past few weeks has been battling with an injury crisis as major key players in the team are currently out for a few weeks.

This has made the Job a bit difficult for him. Irrespective of this crisis, the Gaffer has maintained a strong belief in his attacking game.

The North London side, having dropped points in their last 3 matches, are trying to regain their feet in the premier and a draw against Manchester City was a major boost for them considering their current squad depth.
