The Federal Government has placed a nationwide ban on alcoholic drinks produced in sachet.

This recent development has been approved and has been in planning since 2018 by the NAFDAC, Federal Ministry of Health, Industry represented by the Association of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employers (AFBTE), Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN).

NAFDAC stated that all alcoholic drinks in this category aren't registered by NAFDAC and this poses a threat to the lives of citizens, especially underage and commercial drivers.

In 2018, these health agencies resolved that the production of sachet alcoholic drinks would be reduced by 5% in 2022 and in January 2024, the product will be completely banned in the country. The period NAFDAC gave the producers and distributors to sell off these sachet drinks ended on 31st January 2024.

As a result, NAFDAC asks all producers, distributors, and consumers of these drinks to hand over the leftovers as well as empty sachets and bottles to the agency for destruction to prevent further complications.
