Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have continued on their banging start to the season for Inter Miami as they scored a goal each to salvage a draw against Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Nashville had raced into the lead just four minutes into the game when Jacob Shaffelburg scored to put the hosts into the lead.

Shaffelburg's early goal was enough to preserve the narrow lead till the break as Inter Miami failed to respond.

Nevertheless, there was the second 45 for the Florida-based outfit to redeem themselves and possibly complete a turnaround.

In the first minute of the second half, such hopes of a comeback was dealt a fatal blow when Jacob Shaffelburg scored again for the home side to double the lead.

Going down by two goals, Inter Miami were teetering on the brink of exiting the competition as they would face a huge task overturning the two-goal deficit in the second-leg.

With Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, the Herons could not run out of time to respond. Lionel Messi gave the away side a sigh of relief when he scored a lifeline goal in the 52nd minute to restore comeback hopes.


It was a nervy final 38 minutes as Nashville held on to preserve the narrow 2-1 lead while Inter Miami pushed earnestly for an equaliser.

At the stroke of the end of the game, Luis Suarez came up clutch for Inter Miami, scoring a late header to peg back Nashville to a dramatic 2-2 draw.

It ended squares at the blast of the final whistle with Inter Miami to host the Tenn-basd outfit for a return leg on Wednesday next week.
