A 45,000-litre fuel tanker caught fire yesterday 25th January 2024 while transferring fuel into the reservoir of Fortunate Petrol Station, located opposite Government Secondary School, Maraba, Old Jebba Rd in Ilorin, Kwara State

According to reports, the incident occurred at night at about 7:44 when the petrol tanker was transferring fuel into the reservoir. Fortunately, the fire service was able to contain the fire within 10 minutes of the incident. The cause of the fire was that the little drops of fuel that spilled on the ground during the transfer caught fire because the tanker was too hot due to the long distance it was traveling. Though the petrol station suffered little damage, no lives were lost in the incident.

The Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was present at the scene, acknowledged the efforts of the fire service and their prompt response in preventing damage to the petrol station and its environs.
