Manchester United's 3-3 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, has continued to generate massive traction.

The latest of such is the reality that the Turkish side's 1st goal of the encounter should not have stood.

Manchester United got off to a flying start against Galatasaray, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes putting them into a 2-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes.

Hakim Ziyech pulled 1 back for the home side via a free-kick which was misjudged by goalkeeper Andre Onana.

However, that is not the bone of contention, as according to beIN Sports, the goal should have not have been given due to an unpopular UEFA rule.

Galatasaray had two players in front of the Manchester United wall as Ziyech lined up to take the free-kick.

It has been said that if 3 or more defending players form a wall…all attacking players must be about 1 meter away from the wall until the ball is kicked.

Unfortunately for Manchester United, the goal was given as the referee possibly didn't take that into cognizance.

The goal should have been disallowed as a result of the distance of Galatasaray players to the wall, which was reportedly 61 centimeters.

beIN Sports believe that all attacking players must be at least one meter away if the defending team has 3 or more players in the wall.

Hakim Ziyech converted in style in the 29th minute following an error from Manchester United goalie Andre Onana on two occasions.

Manchester United remain bottom of Group A with 4 points from 5 matches, with only 1 game left to play.

If they are to qualify for the Round of 16, they have to defeat Bayern Munich and hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray settle for a draw in the other group affair.

The Red Devils have given up a 2-goal lead in the past 2 Champions League matches, losing against Copenhagen and sharing the spoils with Galatasaray.

Erik Ten Hag's side have won 1 game, lost 3, and drawn 1 game this campaign in the UEFA Champions League, in a group that they were tipped as favorites to qualify from.

There have been several reactions following the encounter, including that of Manchester United's legendary midfielder Paul Scholes.

Scholes criticized the team for their performance on the day and added that every player should take responsibility for the capitulation.

Speaking directly on the post-match comments of Bruno Fernandes, who pointed out some mistakes from his teammates during the game, Scholes said: “I know in his interview he is talking about mistakes, but he made two big mistakes tonight by giving two stupid fouls away that lead to two goals.

“The full team, including himself as the captain, have to take responsibility - it’s a game they should win.”

Manchester United return to action on Saturday, December 2, 2023, visiting St James' Park to play Newcastle United, in a Premier League encounter.
