Tottenham have suffered a big blow to their top four hopes as they settle for a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Gary do Wolves

The Ange Postecoglou side started the game on the front foot and came close to netting the opener just two minutes into the game.

James Madison and Dejan Kulusevski perfectly worked out the ball for Son Heung-Min, who found Richarlison but the Brazilian's attempt was headed away by Wolves' Kilman.

The home side failed to make something out of the corner-kick conceded by Wolves from Kilman's header. They were still on the ascendancy going forward. A minute after the cleared spot-kick, Maddison found Richarlison close to the opponent's box, but the latter was crowded out by Wolves' defenders.

Despite playing second fiddle to the hosts, Wolves were deadly when breaking forward. They had their first big chance of the game in the 7th minute. Semedo made the first attempt on target for the visitors but Vicario pointed it out. The rebound fell on a platter for Hwang but he blazed it over the crossbar.

The game was largely open for both sides with offensives and counter-offensives. Tottenham were the better side but they could not convert their dominance into goals.

At the stroke of the break, Wolves took the lead against the run of play after forcing the host to concede a corner-kick. Sarabia took it, delivering an inswinger for an unmarked Gomes. From 8 yards out, the Portuguese headed the ball into the top-left corner to give the visitors an unlikely 41st-minute lead.

The goal was enough to force Tottenham to trail at the break.

A minute into the second half, Tottenham found the leveler. Richarlison found Dejan Kulusevski after a throw-in, who beat Dawson and fired the ball pass Wolves goalkeeper Sa to make it 1-1.

Tottenham gave away another goal three minutes after the hour mark after another corner-kick. The host had the corner-kick cleared as far as Neto, who then braved into the area before finding Gomes, who slotted it home to make it 2-1.

After Gomes' second goal, Spurs ramped up their attempt to find the equalizer again all to no avail as Wolves held on to grab an unlikely victory over the London club.

Tottenham are still 5th on the Premier League table with 47 points, 2 points adrift of Aston Villa in 4th, and 6 points above Man United in 6th with both teams having a game in hand.
