Renato Gaucho has confirmed that Luis Suarez will play his final game with Gremio on Sunday, December 3, 2023, ahead of a possible departure to Inter Miami.
Suarez has in the past few months been linked with a move to the American club to team up with former teammates, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Lionel Messi.
Luis Suarez has been menacing in attack for Gremio, scoring 23 goals and providing 17 assists in all competitions, a return that the Brazilian club really appreciates.
The Uruguay legend joined Gremio on a free transfer on January 1, 2023, penning a one-year deal with the club.
Speaking on Suarez's final game for the Brazilian outfit, manager Renato Gaucho said:
“Are we going to miss him? Certainly, without a doubt, he is very loved by everyone.”
He also added that it has been a pleasure for him, working with “one of the best in the world”.
“I had the pleasure of working with a great professional, one of the best in the world, fourth highest scorer in the world. This void will remain for the next year, because it's not easy to find someone of his talent and ability.
“When you find someone else, it's unfeasible to bring him in financially. Unfortunately, as I said before, it was very difficult for him to stay. Everyone wanted it, but only he could reverse this decision.”
Despite having a much talked about career during his early years for his antics with regard to racism and cannibalism, Renato has great words on the attitude of a mature Suarez.
He said: “He is an extraordinary professional on and off the field. He arrived quietly, he was letting go, playing, and accepting the games.
“I often wanted to take him out of training or a game, but he wanted to continue. He wants to play every game and it doesn't hurt.”
