Kylian Mbappe was benched for Paris Saint Germain's league encounter against Nantes on February 19, 2024.

This came to the fore after the forward informed PSG's president Nasser Al Khelaifi that he would exit the club at the end of the season as a free agent.

Mbappe is Paris Saint Germain's most important player and seeing the Frenchman being dropped to the bench against Nantes came as a shock to many, who were quick to draw up different assumptions.

Reports from Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claim that Kylian Mbappe starting from the bench against The Green and Yellows was a decision of the manager and not that of the administrators of the club.

Romano indicated that the Frenchman started on the bench as Luis Enrique wanted him to get some rest after midweek UEFA Champions League action.

Mbappe also reportedly told the Paris-based club that he is available to help the club until June 2024, but he will not remain at the Parc Des Princes past this summer.

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe came off the bench to help Paris Saint Germain further their charge towards the Ligue 1 title with a victory over Nantes.

Lucas Hernandez netted the opener in the 60th minute before Mbappe netted a penalty in the 78th minute after he was introduced in the second 45, replacing Marco Asensio.

The Parisians coasted to a 2-0 victory and that victory saw Paris Saint Germain go 14 points clear at the summit of the Ligue 1 table.

Kylian Mbappe also scored a goal in Paris Saint Germain's 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in a Round of 16 UEFA Champions League encounter.

The 25-year-old is in swashbuckling form, scoring goals with reckless abandon and displaying his brilliance without any pause whatsoever.

The France national team captain joined Paris Saint Germain on July 1, 2018, for a fee of €180 million.

Mbappe has scored 32 goals and provided 7 assists in 31 appearances for the French giants across all competitions.

His departure will signal the end of the Messi-Neymar-Mbappe trio that was expected to take teams apart.

Unfortunately, these players couldn't lead Paris Saint Germain to European glory, with the team only showing their dominance in France.

It will be interesting to see how Mbappe ends his stint at PSG and what his decision will be if they shockingly manage to win the UEFA Champions League this season.

It can be presumed that he could remain in Paris if that feat happens, as that is the only trophy that eludes him at this stage of his career.

Cumulatively, Kylian Mbappe is Paris Saint Germain's all-time top scorer, has scored 244 goals, and provided 105 assists for the French club in all competitions.

Internationally, Mbappe is edging closer to Olivier Giroud on the all-time top-scorer list, having scored 46 goals and provided 30 assists in 75 appearances.

Giroud has netted 56 goals and provided 16 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions.
