Lionel Messi turned the pages of football history after he joined the goal fest that saw Inter Miami put Orlando City to rout in MLS matchday 3 clash at the Chase Stadium.

The Argentine footballing sensation bagged a brace, striking twice in the second half to extend the lead and put the game beyond Orlando City.

His South American compatriot and fellow Barcelona legend Luis Suarez was also on the scoresheet for the Herons. Luis Suarez opened the scoring for the home side four minutes into the game before doubling the lead seven minutes later.

Taylor added to the score tally to make it 3-0 before Lionel Messi wrapped up the rout with a second-half brace to hand Inter Miami what could be their biggest MLS victory.

Messi's heroics in the game has seen him join the exclusive club of players with the most league goals in football history. His long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo was the first player to register an astonishing 500 league goals to cap his heroic club career across top leagues in Europe.

Ronaldo reached the milestone in 2022. And it has taken Lionel Messi a year and a few months to reach the milestone.

While Ronaldo may be entitled to the bragging rights, having reached the milestone earlier than Lionel Messi, it is pertinent to note that Messi has done it with a fewer number of games (67 games less) than the Portuguese.

Lionel Messi registered a larger chunk of his league goal tally while playing for Barcelona. He is Barcelona's all-time topscorer with 474 goals.

At PSG, Messi recorded 22 Ligue 1 goals across his two seasons with the club and has now added four MLS goals to take his tally to 500.

Cristiano Ronaldo still has more league goals than Lionel Messi. The Portuguese took his league goal tally to 534 when he scored in Al-Nassr's 3-2 victory over Al-Shabab in SPL.

His overall tally for club and country stands at 837 while Lionel Messi's club and country tally stands at 606 goals.
