Players of Manchester United are increasingly uncertain about the future of manager Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

They are doubtful that the Dutchman will remain as the gaffer, given the team's woes in the 2023/24 season.

Ten Hag still has the backing of the dressing room, despite some agitations regarding the intensity of his training regime.

However, reports indicate that many Manchester United players believe it is very much possible that new co-owner Ineos, owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will dismiss the former Ajax boss at the end of the campaign, after two years in charge of the English giants.

Erik Ten Hag maintains that he has the support of Sir Ratcliffe alongside his Ineos sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford.

He feels aligned with the key administrators following positive conversations since the confirmation of the Ineos group's 25% stake acquisition of Manchester United.

However, there are also reports claiming that Ten Hag has confided to coaching staff and agents that he has no guarantees over his future with the Red Devils.

The Ineos group successfully poached Omar Berrada away from Manchester City and are inching closer to bringing in Newcastle's Dan Ashworth as director of football, amongst moves that spell a statement of intent from the new guys handling the football side of things at Old Trafford.

Definitely, Ten Hag will likely get back into the good books of the fans and earn the trust of the club if he guides Manchester United to the FA Cup title this campaign, and qualifies for the UEFA Champions League.

However, the Red Devils' fate concerning winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League is bleak, given the teams they will be competing against.

Manchester United face Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals, while they are behind Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Champions League places.

Erik Ten Hag's side are 11 points away from Unai Emery's Aston Villa, who sit 4th on the Premier League table, with 55 points from 27 matches.

Ten Hag has always bemoaned and pointed towards injuries as the reason for his team's misfortunes.

Over 40 instances of players absent from games due to injury or illness, with several key players - Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund missing in crucial moments this term due to injury.

In Manchester United's last two matches - Nottingham Forest (FA Cup), and Manchester City (Premier League), Bruno Fernandes, Raphael Varane, Marcus Rashford, and Luke Shaw reportedly had to play with some discomfort.

This has apparently led to discontent among some players over the grueling nature of Ten Hag's training sessions and the herculean approach of Erik Ten Hag and his assistant Mitchell van der Gaag.

Some players were displeased that they were not handed an extra day off after the league fixture against Luton Town despite Manchester United having no midweek fixture.

It is understood that there is a belief that Ten Hag needs to lighten up the training sessions and go easier on the players to keep them fit, fresh, and ready for the remainder of matches this season.
