Newcastle United strolled to a 1-0 slim victory over Manchester United at St James' Park.

In a game overwhelmingly dominated by the Magpies, a second-half goal minutes before the hour mark was what separated the two sides.

Several chances fell by the home team right from the blast of the whistle, and many were stunned to see the scoreline level at the interval.

Manchester United secured the game's first big opportunity in the 11th minute, with Bruno Fernandes delivering a brilliant through-ball to Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho went past Kieran Trippier and unleashed a low shot towards the near post, but his effort was saved by the foot of Nick Pope.

6 minutes later, Andre Onana made a great save to deny Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley from taking his side ahead.

The closest that Eddie Howe's side came to scoring in the first 45 was through Kieran Trippier, as his well-taken free-kick struck the bar, with Onana claiming the second ball in the 39th minute.

2 minutes before the end of regulation time in the opening 45, Harry Maguire could have conceded an own goal.

Tino Livramento was given massive space to bump down the left, and he subsequently whipped in a low cross, which Maguire was looking to defend.

The ball hit the Englishman and looked like it was going in, but it scraped the side of the post.

Both teams went into the break level with plenty to do in the second 45, but Newcastle United will certainly have felt like they could have gone ahead in the opening half.

10 minutes after the restart of the second 45, Kieran Trippier delivers a brilliant cross into the area of Manchester United, with Anthony Gordon scoring with ease.

In the 61st minute, Rasmus Hojlund came on for Anthony Martial, while Erik Ten Hag also introduced Antony for Marcus Rashford.

13 minutes before the end of regulation time, Harry Maguire got his name taken down into the referee's book for a rash tackle on Anthony Gordon.

In the 80th minute, Sofyan Amrabat came on in place of Kobbie Mainoo, and Sergio Reguilon was also brought on for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Just 6 minutes before the 90, Newcastle United suffered a huge blow, with Nick Pope suffering an injury, and he was helped off the pitch by the medics.

Following his departure, Martin Dubravka came on to replace him, and Dubravka could have had a night to rue if a goal by Manchester United in the 89th minute wasn't canceled.

Brazilian winger Antony was in a delightful position, and he nodded the ball at goal, but his effort deflected off Harry Maguire and went past Martin Dubravka, but the flag was raised for an offside, and Manchester United's joy was shortlived.

Antony got a yellow card 2 minutes into 9 minutes of added time in the second half, for a poor challenge on Tino Livramento.

In the 90+7 minute, Joelinton was also booked for dissent, while Eddie Howe made his last substitution of the game, introducing Matt Ritchie for Anthony Gordon.

The Red Devils suffered a defeat for the first time in 4 premier league matches, while Erik Ten Hag's side have also suffered back-to-back defeats in all competitions.

Newcastle United moved to 5th on the log with 26 points following the victory, while Manchester United sit 7th with 24 points.
