Nigerian Senate confirms Yemi Cardoso as new CBN governor
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Yemi Cardoso as the new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). They recently approved Dr Olayemi Cardoso's nomination as the Governor of CBN. Recall Dr Olayemi was screened alongside 4 nominees who had been nominated for the positions of the Deputy Governors of CBN.
Dr Olayemi Michael Cardoso is a Nigerian banker and he was once the chairman of Citibank Nigeria. He has also served as the Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget. His tenure will run for a duration of 5 years.
The nominees for the position of the deputy governors include Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Dr. Bala M. Bello, and Mr. Philip Ikeazor.
Recall he was appointed by the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu some weeks ago and had resumed the position as acting governor. Dr Yemi resumed last week as the acting CBN governor pending the time his nomination and appointment is confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.
