The National Industrial Court has issued an order to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to suspend the planned nationwide strike slated for Wednesday.

Justice Anuwe, who led the National Industrial Court (NIC) said, “Counsel has pointed out that students of secondary schools nationwide, especially those writing WAEC exams nationwide, will be affected. The tertiary institutions that have only just resumed after a long ASUU strike will also be affected, not leaving the health sector, among other sectors, and above all, the economy of the nation. In my view, this is a situation of extreme urgency that will require the intervention of this court.”

Festus Osifo, President of the TUC, and Joe Ajaero, president of the NLC, have both signed an agreement with the FG to suspend the strike.

The three parties agreed to establish a joint committee to review the proposal for wage increase and also select a timeline for the implementation.

The concerned parties have decided to meet June 19th 2023 to discuss further on the implementation.20230606_073008.jpg
