Nottingham Forest have officially announced the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager.
The decision to bring in Santo comes after the team's struggles under former manager Steve Cooper, who was sacked following a string of disappointing results, with only one win in their last 13 matches.
Nottingham Forest confirmed the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as first-team head coach in a club statement today, December 20.
The club wrote: “Nuno joins the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge of his first match on Saturday when Forest face Bournemouth at The City Ground.”
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis thanked Cooper for his efforts but emphasized the need for a fresh start to revitalize the team's performance.
Marinakis claimed the decision is a major step for the club, which are currently ranked 17th in the Premier League standings.
He said: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club."
"His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the club’s history,” Marinakis said Tuesday."
“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham."
The 49-year-old Portuguese tactician, Santo has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Nottingham Forest.
He is expected to bring better managerial tactics into the team and work towards improving the club's position in the Premier League to clear them out of relegation.
Nuno Espírito Santo has had a thriving career in football management, leading several clubs to notable achievements.
He began his managerial career at Rio Ave in 2012, guiding the team to domestic success and their first Europa League qualification.
However, he is immensely famous for his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers from 2017 to 2021, during which he successfully led the team from the Championship to the Premier League and reached the Europa League quarter-finals.
Following his stint at Wolves, Nuno briefly managed Tottenham Hotspur in 2021.
It should be noted that Nuno also had a stint managing the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad, where he was dismissed from his position in November.
Nottingham Forest fans are optimistic that Nuno Espirito Santo's Premier League experience and successful track record will be instrumental in redeeming the team's fortunes.
With his past success at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Forest's fans see Nuno's leadership as a valuable asset during this tough phase.
His appointment is a significant move for Nottingham Forest as they seek to secure their position in the Premier League at the end of this season.
He will hopefully prove his worth in the upcoming crucial match against Bournemouth on Saturday, December 23.
