Nigeria defeated Angola to progress into the quarter-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, however, the result was not the only catchy thing about the game but the presence of several notable individuals.

The Super Eagles secured passage to the last 8, courtesy of a sublime goal by Ademola Lookman in the 41st minute.

The goal took Lookman's tally in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to 3 goals in 5 matches, with the goals all coming in the knockout rounds.

Anyway, the victory for the most populous black nation in the world sweetened the hearts of their supporters, with social media going agog due to the frenzy state of Nigerians.

Present at the stadium during the game was the Labour Party's candidate for the 2023 Nigeria Presidential election, Peter Gregory Obi.

Obi was seen amongst the thousands of Nigerian supporters in the stands in Abidjan, providing his support to the team in a very heated game.

Peter Obi came third in the 2023 presidential election held on February 25, 2023, behind Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and eventual winner Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress.

The 2023 Presidential election is said to be one of the most controversial in the country's history, as it was marred by pockets of violence across several states in the country.

Additionally, many alleged that the election was rigged in favor of the eventual winner, with large public sentiments apparently swaying towards Obi as the rightful winner.

Peter Obi has previously served as Governor of Anambra State for two terms, June 14, 2007, to March 17, 2014.

He was also appointed chairman of the Nigerian Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) by former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan.

Obi's movement generated lots of buzz particularly amongst the youths, with his supporters ably known as “obidients”.

Following Nigeria's 1-0 win over Angola on Friday, February 2, the 62-year-old took to X (formerly known as Twitter), to share how delighted and thrilled he was to be at the stadium supporting the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

He wrote: “It was truly a delightful and uplifting experience for me today, as I joined other Nigerians to watch Nigeria's National Team, the Super Eagles, live in Abidjan, Ivory Coast Capital, as they cruised to the semi-final of the ongoing AFCON tournament.”

Several individuals particularly from opposition parties tried to link his visit to Abidjan as one that is politically driven.

However, a picture resurfaced online showing Peter Obi on the pitch alongside other players and officials of the Super Eagles, celebrating the 2013 AFCON triumph.

Anyway, Nigeria return to action on February 7, 2024, facing either Cape Verde or South Africa in the semi-final.

The Super Eagles are clear favorites for the crown at this point, as they are the highest-ranked team in the tournament and it will be thrilling for Nigerians to see them lift the title.
