Plateau State storms and destroys wares of shops selling alcohol to their husbands
Some women residing in Plateau State have allegedly stormed shops selling alcoholic drinks in the state. The angry mob moved from one shop to another to destroy their wares, claiming that their husbands were being destroyed with alcohol.
This took place mostly in Sabon Bariki and Bukuru Low-Cost areas of Gyel District, which recorded a massive turnout of women. The women stated that the alcoholic drinks were making their men irresponsible, and divided themselves into groups to destroy the wares of the traders. Some of the traders who were quick enough to close down their shops weren't raided. However, the women promised to return to destroy their wares.
Also, their actions had the backing of the traditional rulers in the state. While stating their reasons for destroying the trader's wares, one of the women said "These drinks are turning our men into irresponsible people. The drinks are weakening them; taking away their strengths and making them useless. Our youths don’t have the strength to do menial jobs or farm to fend for themselves again. They spend most of their time in these drinking places."
She further stated, "Our husbands have also been weakened by the drinks, and they can no longer perform their conjugal duties in the night. Today, instead of having a man and a woman at home, we now have two women at home since our husbands cannot be called men any longer."
