Rodrygo Goes has made it known that he has been a victim of racial abuse following his clash with Lionel Messi ahead of Brazil's 1-0 loss to Argentina.

The encounter was marred by violence following clashes between Brazilian police and fans of Argentina at the Maracana stadium, with the encounter being delayed by half an hour.

Lionel Messi after the game accused local police of brutality, and he was pictured discussing with Marquinhos, the captain of Brazil.

Messi was also seen in a squabble with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who shared that he had been sent several messages with emojis of monkeys and bananas visible.

Rodrygo took to Instagram on Thursday, November 23, 2023, to write about how he has become a victim of racism in the past few days.

Rodrygo wrote: "Racists are always on duty. My social networks were invaded with insults and all sorts of nonsense.

"If we don't do what they want if we don't behave as they think we should, if we wear something that annoys them, if we don't lower our heads when they attack us, if we occupy spaces they think are theirs alone, the racists will act out their criminal behavior. Bad luck for them. We won't stop.”

His Real Madrid and Brazil teammate, Vinicius Jr, has been a victim of racial abuse through his weight behind Rodrygo.

Vinicius Jr wrote on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter: “We will not stop.”

Neymar, a former teammate with whom Rodrygo was in a squabble during the game, Lionel Messi, also toed the line of Rodrygo, that they would not be defeated by racial abuses.

He wrote: “Stop? It was never an option!"

Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also commented with the emoji: “❤️✊”

Real Madrid's Eder Militao also wrote: “We won't stop! ✊ We are with you in this fight brother!"

Several stars and institutions have also come out to indicate their support for him, including; Santos FC of Brazil, Manchester United's Antony, and AC Milan winger Rafael Leao to name a few.

Meanwhile, Rodrygo has made 20 appearances for the Selecao Canarinha of Brazil, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist in all competitions.

The 22-year-old continues to develop greatly and has produced impressive performances over time for Real Madrid.

He began his career at Brazilian club Santos, where he made 55 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 6 assists in all competitions.

Rodrygo has made 237 appearances thus far in his career, scoring 55 goals and providing 42 assists in all competitions.

Several fans have come out to lambast fans, who have sent racial abuse at the forward, with other fans seemingly seeing the post of Rodrygo as “playing the racism card” to get sympathy from the fans.
