The Russian government has issued a stern warning to the regional bloc ECOWAS over its plans to invade Niger Republic with military forces.
According to reports, the ECOWAS military forces are meant to meet on Saturday to discuss strategies on military intervention.
Russia told ECOWAS in a statement on Friday, "We believe that a military solution to the crisis in Niger could lead to a protracted confrontation in that African country and a sharp destabilization of the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region as a whole."
However, the ECOWAS chairman, President Tinubu said that they are leaving no stone unturned concerning the political state of Niger including the use of force.
He stated, "No option is taken off the table, including the use of force as a last resort."
