Sebastien Haller was handed a resounding welcome by Borussia Dortmund, following his return to the club after a triumphant outing with Ivory Coast at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Haller was welcomed rousingly by his teammates and officials of the German club, as they were hearty to see him return to the team.

Sebastien Haller scored the winning goal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, flicking the ball into the back of the net, despite being sandwiched between two Nigerian defenders.

He scored two crucial goals at the tournament, coming up clutch in the semi-final against DR Congo and ultimately when it mattered most against the Super Eagles on February 11, 2024.

William Troost-Ekong had put Nigeria ahead in the opening 45, however, Frank Kessie brought the Ivorians back on level terms 2 minutes away from the hour mark.

Nine minutes before the expiration of the affair, Haller showed guts and determination in the face of adversity, as he netted the crucial goal of the encounter.

Sebastien Haller got a hero's welcome in Dortmund, and he was delighted by the show of love from his teammates.

Haller's story in the past 24 months has been really inspirational, as he triumphed over testicular cancer and then went on to win the 2023 AFCON final with Ivory Coast.

He broke down in tears during a presser after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, which was 13 months following his recovery from cancer.

An emotional Sebastian Haller speaking with reporters after the game said:

“We dreamed of this moment so many times. We hoped to get to this point and once again the match wasn't an easy one.

“The joyous scenes we see now, what's happening in the country, they deserve it too. I really hope it does a lot of people good.”

Sebastien Haller joined Borussia Dortmund from Ajax on July 6, 2022, for a fee of €31 million.

The 29-year-old has made 36 appearances for the Black and Yellows, scoring 11 goals and providing 5 assists in all competitions.

Meanwhile, several other African players were also welcomed vibrantly by their respective clubs, including the Nigerian Fulham duo of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.

The English club took to their X (formerly known as Twitter) account to welcome back the pair.

Fulham posted a picture of both players in training and they captioned it with: “Our Super Eagles are back.” with the Cottagers including an eagle to the caption.

Samuel Chukwueze also received a warm welcome from his teammates at AC Milan, following his return to the Italian club after his 2023 AFCON outing with Nigeria.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations ticked every box of a thrilling tournament, as fans witnessed mouthwatering and nail-biting matches throughout the competition.
