Tyron Ebuehi will be unavailable for Nigeria in their friendly encounters in March 2024 against Ghana and Mali due to injury.

Ebuehi picked up a knock during Empoli's 1-0 loss to Bologna on Friday, March 15, 2024.

He was brought on in the 66th minute of the game, coming on for Emmanuel Gyasi, but sustained an injury later on, which resulted in him exiting the encounter in the first minute of stoppage time.

Empoli subsequently confirmed the injury to the defender via a statement shared on their website on Monday, March 18, 2024.

The statement reads: “Empoli Football Club announces that the instrumental tests to which the player Tyronne Ebuehi, who came off during Friday’s match against Bologna, underwent, highlighted the partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee.”

The Serie A side also revealed that Tyrone Ebuehi has begun receiving treatment to aid his recovery process.

They wrote: “The footballer, after having undergone an initial specialist evaluation to establish the recovery path, began the appropriate treatments with the Azzurri healthcare staff.”

Ebuehi joined Empoli on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, and he has made 16 appearances for the club, scoring no goal and providing 1 assist in all competitions.

The 28-year-old has made 13 appearances for Nigeria, scoring no goal and providing no assist.

He last played for the Super Eagles in a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia on October 13, 2023, getting about 65 minutes of action under his belt.

Tyrone Ebuehi was an unused substitute in Nigeria's 3-2 win over Mozambique on October 16, 2023, but since then, he hasn't played for the 3-time Africa Cup of Nations champions.

Unfortunately, Ebuehi missed both Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria in recent years where they finished on the podium - 2019 and 2023 editions.

The former Benfica man was absent from the 2019 AFCON due to a cruciate ligament tear, while he also didn't feature in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to a Hamstring muscle injury.

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has also pulled out of Ghana's squad for their upcoming friendly with Nigeria.

Partey rejected the Black Stars invitation for the friendly set to be played on Friday, March 22, 2024.

Thomas Partey hasn't gotten back his starting shirt at Arsenal, following months of absence due to injury.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder sustained a groin injury in November 2023 and he had to undergo surgery.

Partey was scheduled to return from injury early in February, however, he suffered a setback that pushed his return date backward.

Thomas Partey's first game in 2024 was in Mikel Arteta's side 6-0 smashing of Sheffield United, where he got about 25 minutes of action under his belt.

He also played just a minute in the Gunners 2-1 win over Brentford, while he was left on the bench for the Gunners away first leg last 16 defeat to Porto.

Partey is understood to have turned down Ghana's invitation due to his intensifying efforts at getting back to full fitness.

Thomas Partey scored in the last fixture involving Nigeria and Ghana at the Abuja National Stadium, pouncing him from long range, although assisted by a goalkeeping error from Francis Uzoho.

The 30-year-old has made 45 appearances for the Black Stars, scoring 12 goals and providing 6 assists in all competitions.
