Puff Pastry Recipes

Puff-Pastry-Feature.jpg

Are you looking for a delicious addition to your recipe book? Puff pastry could be that extra mouth-watering option you are seeking to prepare for your loved ones. However, before I proceed to list the perfect puff pastry recipes, let's take a quick look into what a puff pastry means. Puff pastry is usually a light and flaky pastry made from a laminated dough. That is, the dough is made by alternating layers of butter and dough until the desired quantity is achieved. Making this sweet delicacy doesn't require a lot of ingredients, as long as you've got butter, salt, water, and flour, you are all set.

The preparation can be a bit tasking since it requires;
1. Wrapping a cold block of butter in dough,
2. Rolling it out,
3. Folding it over; and
4. Repeating this process until you are satisfied with the number of layers of your dough

The recipe for making a tantalizing puff pastry enough to feed two people is as follows:
- 1 and 1/3 cups (166g) all-purpose flour (spoon & leveled), plus more for generously flouring hands, surface, and dough
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks; 170g) unsalted butter, very cold and cubed
- 6–8 Tablespoons (90-120ml) ice cold water

Note: It is vital to use cold butter and water when preparing this dough. This is what gives it a flaky appearance once the puff pastry is fully baked.

The recipe for cream puff is completely different from the one for puff pastry, so do not mix them up.
The cream puff is a sweet pastry made with choux pastry dough that is baked to form small dome-shaped puffs. Once it is baked, the outer crust becomes golden brown, while the inner crumb is fluffy. The major ingredients used in preparing cream puffs include flour, butter, water, sugar, vanilla pudding, cream, and eggs. Unlike puff pastry, cream puff requires a large amount of eggs.
