Tobi Amusan listed as one of the 10 nominees for Women’s Athlete of the Year award
Tobi Amusan, the World record holder and 100m hurdles champion has been confirmed to be among the 10 nominees for the Women’s World Athlete of the Year.
The World Athletics who are the organizers of this event released this information on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
The voting process for the 2022 World Athletes of the Year has officially begun since the announcement was made.
Reports from other sources state that the 10 athletes that were selected for the World Athletes, were selected by various representatives from all the continents formed into an international panel.
Earlier this year, Tobi Amusan set a world record in her athletics career and won a few awards.
Amusan spoke about her nomination for the World Athletes award and she mentioned that she was honored to have been considered among the best 10 women in the world for the outgoing year.
Tobi Amusan and her colleague Faith Kipyegon, who is a Kenyan, were the only Africans who were nominated for this World Athletes award. The Kenyan star, Faith is a world 1500m champion and Diamond League 1500m champion.
The women who were nominated are listed below:
Tobi Amusan from Nigeria, Faith Kipyegon from Kenya, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica, Chase Ealey of the U.S., Kimberly Garcia from Peru, Shericka Jackson from Jamaica, Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine, Sydney McLaughlin of the U.S., Shaunae Miller-Uibo of Bahamas, and Yulimar Rojas from Venezuela.
The finalists will be determined by a 3 way voting process. Fans of the Athletes can vote online on the social media platforms of the World Athletics on of which is by email.
The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms.
The graphics for each of the nominees will be posted on all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the likes) this week.
A like on any of these social media platforms will be counted as a vote.
The voting process for the World Athletes award closes on Monday, October 31st, 2022 at midnight.
At the end of this process, the finalist comprising 5 women and 5 men will be announced.
The World Athletics Council’s vote will count for 50 per cent of the result, while the World Athletics Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25 per cent of the final result.
The winners will be revealed on World Athletics’ social media platforms in early December and further information about the World Athletics Awards 2022 will be announced later on.
