Unilorin provides buses for students and staff transportation to soften fuel subsidy effect

The management of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State have provided buses to aid easy movement of students and staff of the institution and assist in this period of fuel subsidy.

The fuel subsidy removal has led to a joke in the cost of fuel and hike in transportation fees which has proved to be a challenge facing both students and staff.

The institution therefore provided luxury buses that will transport students and staff to the campus.
The institution is trying to lessen the burden of the effects of the high cost of transportation.

The Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution Mr Kunle Akogun released a statement in Ilorin on Wednesday.

He calls it a palliative measure and this is in addition to other ones which were announced earlier by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole.

The announcement came after the 296th senate Meeting of the institution which was on Tuesday.

He mentioned that the management were concerned about the welfare of the students in terms of transportation to school

This transportation is highly subsidised and they had provided two buses earlier in June for a fare of N100 per drop but now, they have increased the number of buses to 3 and made it free for both students and staff.

These buses will be at the University Bus Terminus at Tipper Garage, Tanke everyday to convey students. This will be between 6:30 am and 7:00 am daily. The buses will take off by 7:15 am.

Coming back from campus, take off time is from 3pm to 4pm and the bus will be at the Fountain Roundabout, near the Senate Building.

The University management have also made arrangements to provide free data for all academic staff so as to aid the virtual lectures to reduce the number of times lecturers and their students would have to come to school.

The Vice Chancellor has also shared that they would also come up with further helpful measures so as to soften the effect of the fuel subsidy removal on students and staff and this will be once the University Governing Council is in place.

There are certain measures that would need to be approved by the Governing Council as they are above the management alone.
