WAEC reveals that supervisors are aiding exam malpractice.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has revealed that some supervisors are also assisting and aiding exam malpractice from students.

They revealed that these supervisors who are to monitor against such are even contributing to it.

It was Mr Patrick Areghan who is the Head of National Office in Nigeria who revealed this yesterday, on Thursday in Abuja.
He mentioned this while he was monitoring the exams in some Government Secondary Schools.

He said he had noticed some rogue website operators numbering 56 who had leaked the WAEC exams.
He said these rogue operators will be prosecuted by the police when the time is right.

He mentioned how some students and parents who are naive fall for such and eventually cause a downfall for themselves because he can't even get the exact questions.

He said they have arrested not less than 15 people including supervisors, candidates, some school proprietors who are involved with examination malpractices.

He revealed that these supervisors make a lot of money. He also mentioned how there are 21,000 secondary schools in Nigeria having only a staff strength of 2,000. He wonders how they can man every exam center.

He said these supervisors are teachers who have been given to WAEC by state ministries of education and usually, when they come, they turn it into a business.

He mentioned how some people post advertisements of these questions online asking people to subscribe on their websites and then give them fake questions.

He said they only release the papers to these supervisors one hour before the time exams will commence based on their regulations.

This will ensure that they go from the point of collection straight to the administrative point since some schools are far.

He said these supervisors will then snap these questions and send them to their groups.

He then said that the council had put some technology in place so as to detect any such from any location.
