Zambian minister resigns, after been caught in a viral video, receiving bribe

The Zambian foreign minister has resigned after he was caught in a viral video accepting cash bribes. The minister has been identified as Stanley Kasongo Kakubo. He has been serving as a member of the Parliament since 2016. He recently resigned from his position as foreign minister after an incriminating video of him allegedly counting some stacks of money surfaced online. He was receiving cash bribes from a Chinese businessman/ contractors.

Stanley Kakubo is a Zambian politician who once served as a member of the national Assembly for Kapiri Mposhi in 2016. He became the minister of foreign affairs in September 2021 and resigned in December 2023 after the news of this scandal. He is 43 years old. He was born on the 24th of April 1980 in Livingstone, Zambia. He is serving under the umbrella of the United Party for National development. The video which recently emerged was from 2022, and it was after the video surfaced online and went viral that the minister resigned.

In the video, Mr Stanley had promised to sell rich mineral mines to these Chinese contractors, but he failed to fulfil the terms. It was then the video surfaced online. The video didn’t show the faces of the people involved however it showed 2 men sitting by a table counting some stacks of cash. He has however revealed that he resigned so as not to allow this controversy to disturb the administration of the current president of Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema. He revealed that they will soon share the context that surrounds the entire situation. The president has reacted to this development. He has accepted the resignation of this minister and also appreciated his achievements and contributions while serving as a minister in the parliament.
