The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to hold its much-anticipated national convention at Eagle Square, Abuja, where new party leaders will emerge. Top party chieftains across the national, zonal, state, and ward levels are expected to attend the event themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Briefing the media at the Transcorp Hilton, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said over 8,400 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory would converge for the gathering. Other top officials present included the Ministers of Arts and Culture, Aviation and Aerospace Development, and several presidential advisers. Idris emphasized that the convention represents a continuation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to reinforce the party’s alignment with national development goals.

He described the event as a platform for reflection, policy engagement, and transition to new leadership while reaffirming the APC’s commitment to unity, transparency, and inclusiveness. Former Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Masari, confirmed that all positions were zoned according to the party’s principles, dismissing concerns about internal litigations. He assured the public that all preparations had been completed for a smooth and credible convention.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, to work from home due to road closures around the venue. The move aims to ensure security and manage the expected influx of visitors. As anticipation grows, hotels across the FCT have reported full bookings, indicating the scale of the event.

Economic Implications

The APC convention’s economic impact extends beyond politics. In the short term, it generated significant revenue for Abuja’s hospitality, transport, and service sectors—from fully booked hotels to increased patronage of local vendors. More strategically, if the convention successfully strengthens internal party cohesion and clarifies policy direction, it may boost investor confidence by projecting political stability. Conversely, any signs of division or controversy could unsettle markets and dampen economic optimism. Ultimately, the event’s outcome will reflect whether Nigeria’s ruling party can translate its political unity into effective governance and economic recovery.

This is a major event for APC and Nigeria’s political landscape. Beyond politics, it’s interesting to see the real economic effects—hotels fully booked, local vendors benefiting, and businesses seeing more activity. How the convention unfolds could also send signals to investors about political stability, which in turn affects the markets. Let’s hope it strengthens unity and translates into positive governance for the country.

Honestly, i dont know the plans they have for us, cause at the end of the day, people aren’t just watching politics, they want to see real change. It’s not enough to have big meetings or elect leaders. What we need is a clear plan that puts money in people’s pockets, creates jobs, fixes roads and power, and makes it easier for businesses to grow. That’s what will actually make life better for everyday Nigerians, fast.
