Wilfred Ndidi was involved in a light-hearted banter with teammate Stephy Mavididi, following Nigeria's qualification to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mavididi was apparently aiming a dig at the Super Eagles and their dancing after arriving at their match venue in Bouake for the clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

Ndidi was in a happy state following Nigeria's victory over Hugo Broos' side 4-2 via penalties, after playing out a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

During a banter session in the training facility of Leicester City, the pair exchanged words, with Stephy Mavididi saying:

“You know when they were recording all the teams coming on and all the teams you can see that they got something, but Nigeria nothing, no rhythm, embarrassing.”

In response, Wilfred Ndidi countered the statement of the attacker jokingly by saying that Congolese can go and dance with South Africa in the losers' final.

“We’re walking to the finals innit, you Congolese can dance. You can go and dance to Amapiano in the 3rd place", he said.

“We are not here to dance, we are here to play football. Go and dance in the 3rd place with Amapiano boys”.

Stephy Mavididi was born in England and has represented the European country at junior levels, however, he is of DR Congolese descent.

DR Congo lost to Cote d'Ivoire in the other semi-final fixture 1-0, courtesy of a goal from Borussia Dortmund's Sebastien Haller.

They will face off against South Africa, who Nigeria defeated as aforementioned via penalties, with Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the decisive spot-kick.

The third-place final has been slated for Saturday, February 10, 2024, and it will go down at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Meanwhile, Leicester City are expecting the return of Ndidi, who was initially ruled out for about 3 months, in what will certainly be a boost for the Championship club.

The Foxes are aiming to return to the top-flight and they have had an impressive season, as they sit 1st on the log, with 72 points from 30 league matches.

Enzo Maresca's side return to action on Saturday, February 10, 2024, facing Watford, in a Matchday 31 Championship clash.

Anyway, Wilfred Ndidi's Nigeria square off against host Cote d'Ivoire on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

The Super Eagles have a daunting challenge at hand, as they battle against the hosts, who will enjoy enormous support, with the team also looking to repeat the feat of 2013.

Nigeria played against Burkina Faso twice in the 2013 AFCON, in their opening group game and the final, with the Super Eagles winning 1-0 in the final, having played out a 1-1 draw during the group phase.

They are chasing their 4th Africa Cup of Nations title and having defeated Cote d'Ivoire in the group stage, they will be hoping to silence the Elephants in the final.
