⚡Transcorp Power Moves 4 Turbines to Delta to Boost Electricity Generation

In a bold move to strengthen Nigeria’s power supply, Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp Group) has successfully relocated four of its eight power turbines from Afam in Rivers State to Delta State, addressing the long-standing gas supply challenges in the eastern region.

This major update was shared by Dr. Owen Omogiafo, President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, during the company’s Q3 2025 investors’ call on Tuesday.

Omogiafo explained that the company chose innovation over limitation:

“We have eight turbines in Afam, but due to gas shortages, we decided—rather than limit power generation—to move four turbines to Delta State where gas availability is more reliable,” she said.

Why the Move Matters

The relocation is expected to increase power generation capacity, as the Delta region has more stable gas sources. Omogiafo also highlighted that Heirs Energies—one of Transcorp’s partners—has revived a gas well now supplying both Afam and Ughelli plants.

⚙️ Power Generation Targets

Transcorp Power aims to:
• Reach 750 megawatts (MW) of available capacity by the end of 2025
• Maintain an average of 620MW for the year
• Generate 528MW on average, with a peak of 590MW

As of Q3 2025, the company had already achieved 424MW, showing steady progress toward its targets.

For Trans-Afam Power, the four relocated turbines are now tied to the national grid, with final connections ongoing. The company targets 378MW available capacity and 294MW generation by year-end.

⚡ Strategic Vision Ahead

Omogiafo reaffirmed Transcorp’s commitment to powering Nigeria’s growth, noting that the group plans to explore bilateral contracts with DisCos and large consumers, ensuring more reliable power delivery.

Peter Ikenga, MD/CEO of Transcorp Power, added that the company operates a blended gas sourcing model from multiple suppliers at competitive rates—helping to keep costs low and efficiency high.

Similarly, Vincent Ozoude, MD/CEO of Transafam Power Limited, said:

“We’re currently at 348MW and plan to close the year at 378MW. We remain aggressive in our contribution to Nigeria’s energy growth and continue to collaborate with NERC, TCN, and other power sector players.”

Growth Beyond Power

The group’s hospitality arm, Transcorp Hotels Plc, is also making big strides. MD/CEO Uzo Oshogwe revealed that the Transcorp Ikoyi Hotel project has secured government approval and consent. The upcoming 24-floor development will include 315 rooms, a 900-seater ballroom, and modern facilities.

Construction is moving toward the next stage as the company finalizes agreements with Grade A contractors for civil and engineering works.

Strong Financial Performance

Transcorp’s financial results for Q3 2025 show remarkable performance:
• Power sector: ₦341.1 billion revenue and ₦93.2 billion profit before tax (PBT) — surpassing 2024’s full-year figures
• Hospitality sector: ₦72.3 billion revenue and ₦22.4 billion PBT — also exceeding FY 2024

This demonstrates robust growth, operational efficiency, and investor confidence across its portfolio.

Additional Insights

Group CFO Festus Izevbizua explained that the company’s impairment provisions are in line with IFRS 9 and linked to outstanding payments from Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET). Once settled, the impairment will be reversed.

He also mentioned ongoing assessments on the new tax reforms taking effect from January 2026, ensuring Transcorp remains compliant and prepared.

In summary: Transcorp’s relocation of turbines to Delta signals a strategic step toward solving gas supply challenges and boosting Nigeria’s electricity generation. With expanding operations in both power and hospitality, the conglomerate continues to solidify its role as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic growth.
