Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has withdrawn from the APC's governorship election in 2023.

The Minister, who had stated his desire to compete for Governor of Kebbi State, has withdrawn from the race to succeed Governor Atiku Bagudu, On Saturday Malami verified the news.

"I have not resigned as Attorney General of the Federation," he added in a text message, "but I have withdrawn from the Kebbi governorship election."

Buhari had asked all ministers with political ambitions to quit on Wednesday.

The President told his ministers and appointees with political ambitions to retire on or before the end of the week's Federal Executive Council meeting.

Buhari's decision complied with Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act, which states: "No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at any political party's convention or congress for the purpose of nominating candidates for any election."

Buhari also met with exiting ministers at the State House on Friday.

Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, Paulen Tallen, Minister of Women Affairs, and Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, are among the ministers in attendance.
