Some members of the All Progressives Congress, acting under the Gaskiya Youth Movement, have petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to ban Bola Ahmed Tinubu from running in the party's presidential primary in 2023.

Tinubu, a former Lagos State Governor, is one of the ruling party's presidential hopefuls and will compete in the party's presidential primary on Monday, June 6th and 7th.

The members made the request in a suit filed before the court with the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/774/2022.

Tinubu and his political party are named as the first and second defendants in the complaint, respectively, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) named as the third.

They want the court to rule on whether the National Leader of the ruling party, or any other political party, can participate in primaries due to his "questionable educational background and date of birth."

They also urged the court to rule that, based on the applicable statutes, the former Lagos State Governor could not participate in or contest the primary election on the platform of the first defendant (APC).

The Abuja court also sought to declare that, given the presidential contenders' doubtful educational background and date of birth, among other difficulties, the APC can not authorize and/or permit his participation in the primary election for the office of president.

The group also wants the court to rule that Tinubu can not participate in any primary elections with any political party in Nigeria in order to be nominated as a presidential contestant for the 2023 general election.
