The People's Redemption Party's presidential candidate for 2023 successfully vote in Mr. Kola Abiola as the presidential flag bearer. He defeated Usman Bugaje, Patience Key, and Col. Gboluga Mosugu (rtd).

Kola Abiola is the first child of the late Chief M.K. Abiola, who was declared the winner of the annulled presidential election on June 12, 1993.

Abiola received 2,097 votes from 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Bugaje coming in second with 813 votes, and Key and Mosugu coming in third and fourth, respectively, with 329 and 263 votes.

There were 3,625 delegates in all, with 3,519 legitimate votes and 141 invalid votes cast.

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission were present as the ballots were counted (INEC). Mr. Falalu Bello, the PRP National Chairman, said the delegates from the 36 states and the FCT voted for the aspirants from their respective states before the results were tallied. He said this was done with INEC's authorization to save money.

"We'd like to bring the entire process closer to the delegates." The delegates have arrived in several states. As a result, we've decided to hold the primary election in the 36 states and the FCT." To execute this exercise in the states, they've set up 37 committees led by nominees from the national executive committee in the states, along with the state organising secretaries, Bello said aspirants had also agreed to back whoever the party's candidate was.

He went on to say that the party decided not to zone its presidential ticket to any of the country's six geopolitical zones, instead opting for a candidate who was capable, competent, and popular across the board. (NAN)
