The incident caused a stampede at the stadium that night and it took over two hours before the spectators could leave the stadium. Even a Zambian CAF official reportedly died at the event.

To join the Super Eagles Supporters Club (SESC), there are set rules and regulations to follow. You have to register, meet every criteria and be accepted before you can join other Nigerians to support the Super Eagles during their games. The club has members from various states all over the country who are dedicated to supporting and entertaining the team during championships.
How to join
1. Visit the SESC headquarters at 22, Mabo Street, Off Randel Road, Surulere Lagos or Nigeria Football Supporters Club Cabin, National Stadium complex, Garki, Abuja.
2. Pick up the membership form and select the category of membership you want to join. There are two types of membership: Ordinary and International membership.
3. Please note that the forms are not free as they may attract a fee.
