Liverpool left it late to salvage a point against Manchester City at Etihad thanks to Alexander-Arnold's goal.

The Reds were outclassed by a more clinical Pep Guardiola-led team at Etihad and it was just a matter of time before the hosts take the lead after a commanding presence throughout the game.

Liverpool fell back in their numbers and had the game played mostly in their half as City continued the search for an opening goal.

Phil Foden had a slew of clearcut chances that would have seen the home side bury the game early but ended up firing direct at Alisson Becker twice.

Jeremy Doku was a constant threat to Arnold on the left wing. The former Rennes winger pulled a number of beautiful moves down the left and frequently cut in to create chance for Erling Haaland but the Norwegian failed twice to deliver the tap in.

The game was still barren until the 27th minute when Erling Haaland finally dropped the curtain-raiser.

A poor goalkick clearance by Allison Becker saw Manuel Akanji latched on the ball and then easily steal his way between two Liverpool center-backs before picking on Haaland. Haaland then quickly fired a low shot into bottom right corner pass Allison to give City the lead.

It was a deserved lead for the Premier League champions who had an absolute control of proceedings in the game from the start.

With the goal, Haaland took his Premier League goal tally with Manchester City to 50 in 48 games, becoming the fastest Premier League player to reach half a centurion of Premier League goals.

Liverpool did little to level terms before the break and the Guardiola-led boys comfortably maintained the lead with the lone goal at the interval.

Liverpool impressed early in the second half but were still unable to match City's possessive style, measured runs, silky and perfect passes, and coordinated attack.

City started from where they left mounting more pressure to find the second goal.

After a marathon of pressure on the visitors, the hosts got the ball at the back of the net twice but the two goals were ruled out for offside and a foul on Allison Becker.

Liverpool still struggled under the dominance of City going forward. They rarely create chances and were depending on counter attacks to threaten City's defense.

With a streak of luck and individual brilliance, Jurgen Klopp-led boys finally level the scores at the Etihad with Alexander-Arnold's 80th-munute strike thanks to an assist from Mo Salah.

The match ended with the two sides sharing spoils with a 1-1 draw. Manchester City still stay top of the Premier League table after the game with 29 points while Liverpool retain second spot with 28 points.

Arsenal could now go top of the table with a win against Brentford as they sit third with 27 points with one match outstanding.
