The attack at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, should have been avoided, according to Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of the Yoruba socio-political movement, Afenifere.

According to Adebanjo, the attack may have been avoided if the Amotekun Corps had been allowed to carry guns.

This was said by the organization's National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, while leading a team of Afenifere to grieve with Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, and the people of the state over the Owo atrocity.

The terrorists planned attack would have been detected before the despicable deed was carried out, Adebanjo added, if the Ondo State government was in total control of the state's security.

The leader reiterated his call for the "immediate establishment of state police" and the Amotekun's ability to bear guns.

Nigerians, according to Adebanjo, If Amotokun personnel were allowed to carry weapons, the "southwest" would be better protected.

He said, They're trying to entice us out of the farm and use it as a pretext to wreck mayhem.

We recall that 40 of the 127 people involved in the incident were killed, leaving 61 survivors who are being treated in various hospitals and 26 who have already been discharged.
