Andres Iniesta has agreed a deal in principle with Inter Miami and he is set to reunite with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, according to reports.

Iniesta is currently a free agent, after his deal with Japanese side Vissel Kobe came to an end and he has been linked with a move to Miami on a two-year deal.

Andres Iniesta confirmed his departure from the JLeague side in an emotional press conference held on 25th of May, 2023.

The 2010 World Cup winner revealed his desire to continue playing professional football at aged 39.

Iniesta said: “I want to keep playing football. I feel like I am capable of still playing”.

The Spaniard revealed he doesn't know what next in his career but he wants to end his career on the pitch playing football.

He said: “But as this chapter closes, we'll see what's possible. I want to finish my career on the pitch playing, and this is what I'm hoping to do. [But] I have to tell you the truth, I don't know”.

Inter Miami continue to assemble former Barcelona legends, following the arrival of Lionel Messi.

Sergio Busquets accompanied Lionel Messi to the MLS and was unveiled on the 16th of July, 2023.

The Miami based club also confirmed the arrival of Jordi Alba, whose stint at Barcelona also came to an end last season.

Signing Andres Iniesta wouldn't be much of a hassle given his free agent status and the potential desire of reuniting with his former teammates in Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Despite being at the twilight of his career, Iniesta should still have a thing or two to offer to a club such as Inter Miami in the MLS.

With the assemblage of stars at the Miami based club, they could in no distant time start competing optimally in the league in spite of their current poor form.

Lionel Messi has had an instant impact in America, after scoring a 94th minute free-kick on his debut to give Inter Miami a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul.

New star signings Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets were introduced in the 54th minute of the clash and one could see the influence they had on the encounter.

If Andres Iniesta joins Inter Miami, he will become the fourth addition who was part of the side that defeated Juventus to win the 2015 Champions League final under the tutelage of Luis Enrique.

Current manager of the Herons, Tata Martino has also previously managed Iniesta, when he coached Barcelona in the 2013/14 season.

Martino was asked about the possibility of the deal happening and he apparently chose not to bulge.

However, he expressed that Andres Iniesta is one of the best players he has ever managed.

The 60-year-old said: “Iniesta is one of the best players and best people I have ever coached. Nothing more to say”.

Reports also indicate that Inter Miami are also interested in signing Luis Suarez from Gremio, another player who was also in the side that achieved the 2015 Champions League success.

In a few months time, the city of Miami might be seeing a “Mini Barcelona” as David Beckham and Jorge Mas continue to lure former Barcelona stars who are at the twilight of their careers.

Andres Iniesta has scored 83 goals and provided 162 assists in 808 appearances so far in his career.
