Arsenal are willing to secure the acquisition of a 26-year-old Serie A defender, Fikayo Tomori, who is a former Chelsea player.

The England-born player has been very impressive since his move to AC Milan in Italy, and he has established himself as one of the best center-backs right now.

According to recent reports, Arsenal are believed to be monitoring the former Chelsea player's situation closely and Manager Mikel Arteta has made him his number one target.

The Emirates outfit have already reflected their interest in signing the England international, but it looks unlikely that the player will leave AC Milan in January.

Milan will not want to reduce their squad midway through the season and any move might have to wait until the summer transfer window.

According to an insider close to the report, Tomori's family are Arsenal fans and that could be a benefit for the Gunners when they look to sign him at the end of the season. The player himself is said to be a big fan of Thierry Henry.

Tomori failed to make his impact in the English Premier League during his spell at Chelsea, and he will perhaps feel that he has incomplete business in England.

Therefore, the chance to move to a big club like Arsenal could be a desirable proposal for the 26-year-old.

The Gunners are striving for the league title consistently and they will be an attractive destination for most players. The former Chelsea defender will want to win major trophies with the North London club if the transfer materializes.

The 26-year-old has the physical and technical characteristics to prosper in English football, and he could form a credible partnership with William Saliba in Arsenal’s central defense.

Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu Gaspar are eager to land a new center-back in the January window, as that’s a space in the squad that still has to improve.

The report indicated that Arsenal have already gotten in touch with AC Milan over a possible deal that would see the England-born player move to Emirates Stadium.

However, Arteta’s side could face competition from Bayern Munich, who are also admiring Tomori.

Tomori came through Chelsea’s youth academy before breaking into the first- team in the 2019-2020 campaign under former head coach, Frank Lampard.

The 26-year-old made 27 senior appearances for the West London club but was sold to AC Milan in the summer of 2021, after being denied regular playing time at Chelsea.

He played a key role in the Rossoneri’s Serie A triumph in the 2021-2022 season.

Arsenal, on the other hand, does not have proper cover for their regular central defenders, something the manager would like to address in this ongoing transfer window.

There are a lot of games ahead for the club this campaign, and the Manager wouldn't want to make the same mistake he made last season.

The team have already lost Jurrien Timber to a potential season-ending injury, while Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White have carried insignificant issues.

What's next for Arsenal?

It remains to be seen if the North Londoners will secure the acquisition of Fikayo Tomori, in other to strengthen their backline in pursuit of the Premier League title.

In addition, Mikel Arteta and his men will be seen next in action against Liverpool on Sunday, January 7 in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates Stadium.
