ASUU Declares One-Day Nationwide Protest over Half Salary

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced after a meeting that their decision is to embark on a one-day nationwide protest rally.

This rally is because of the issue of the implementation by the Federal Government, led by the President of a “no-work, no-pay” policy for lecturers in the country.

The protest will be held across various federal universities in Nigeria.

During this protest, no lectures in the universities will be held.

Various universities are to choose a day within the week for their rally. They will pick a day to hold a Congress and embark on the protest.

Just recently, after the ASUU strike was called off after 8 months as a result of the court order and school activities resumed, the government paid the lecturers only half of their salaries.

Sources say that the University of Lagos (UNILAG), have fixed Tuesday, November 15, for their own protest or rally.

The main point of this rally is to make known to many the issues on ground concerning the way education in Nigeria is treated casually.

They will also let the government understand that they are not pleased with the administration.
