ASUU finally suspends 8-Month-Old Strike

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month strike which began earlier this year on the 14th of February 2022.

Today, the 14th of October marks the 8th month of the strike.

The union (ASUU) made this decision to suspend the strike during a meeting consisting of the leadership this morning.
The meeting started yesterday, Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of this morning, Friday, 14th of October.
ASUU’s decision was taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The Court of Appeal had earlier ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard. This order was given last week Friday.

The NEC meeting was held so that the union could decide their next move after the court of appeal gave the order to call off the strike.

The National Executive Committee consists of various members including chairman of state chapters and the national executive members. They all gathered together in Abuja at the National Secretariat for the meeting.

The news of the strike being called off has generated several reactions from Nigerian students as some are excited while others are no longer interested in resuming school.

Various universities will sit together to determine the date of resumption for their students.
