Barcelona have seen their annual spending limit trimmed from €270 million to €204 million by La Liga after the conclusion of the January transfer window.

This becomes the latest financial challenge that the Blaugrana side will be dealing with, following a similar move in the summer of 2023.

Barcelona's spending cap was cut down to €270 million from €648 million, which hampered the team from making needed signings last summer.

The reduction has been due to several factors, with the club losing revenue from moving to Montjuic.

Renovation work is still ongoing at Camp Nou, and the Spanish side are also awaiting a payment from Libero for the sale of Barca Studios.

Barcelona didn't do much business in the January transfer window, with Vitor Roque being the only addition to the team after key midfielder Gavi picked up a knock, which has ruled him out of the remainder of matches this campaign.

The summer of 2024 is also expected to be a quiet one for the Catalan giants, with the team facing the repercussions of several years of bad business moves in the past decade.

Sporting director Deco even said that Barcelona's next manager will have to make do without any big-money signings.

Xavi Hernández confirmed in January 2024 that he was exiting the club at the end of the season, due to his inability to improve the fortunes of the team.

Brighton Boss Roberto De Zerbi is said to be a leading candidate to replace the Spaniard at Barcelona, with Joan Laporta loving the Italian's style of management.

Laporta is apparently willing to welcome and appoint De Zerbi as the club's next manager but as earlier indicated the former Sassuolo manager will have to work with a slim budget.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have the biggest cap in the league, with Los Blancos being able to spend up to €727 million this season.

Atletico Madrid sit 2nd in the La Liga, with Diego Simeone's side having a spending limit of €303 million, while Barcelona fall in third place.

Sevilla have a spending limit of €155 million, while Real Sociedad complete the top 5 with a spending limit of €144 million.

Real Madrid are expected to have a busy summer, with the team set to finalize the acquisition of Kylian Mbappe, who will reportedly be leaving Paris Saint Germain at the end of the 2023/24 season.

It will be interesting to see how Barcelona compete against Los Blancos, with the team unable to sign talents and quality players that can go toe-to-toe with their rivals.

The Catalan-based club sit 3rd on the La Liga table, with 54 points from 25 matches and it is expected that they will rely on La Masia in the next few years, hoping that these youngsters can step up to the big occasion.
