Bayern Munich are said to be considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso.

The former Real Madrid player, Alonso has performed a wonder at Leverkusen since his appointment in October 2022.

His managerial performance has drawn the interest of several European teams including Real Madrid, but the Spanish powerhouse have given the German giant the green light to land Alonso following Carlo Ancelotti's contract extension.

The 14-time European champions have given the Italian a vote of confidence and, although they monitored Alonso closely, he would have to wait for a return to the Bernabeu.

Xabi Alonso's era at Leverkusen has been eye-catching since the beginning of the 2023/2024 season, he has guided Bayer Leverkusen to 22 victories, three draws, and no defeats so far this season

This has been the main reason why Bayern Munich are keen on signing him to replace Thomas Tuchel who has been performing poorly since he was appointed the club's head coach.

The German giants have been impressed by what Alonso is achieving at Leverkusen and reportedly want him to replace Thomas Tuchel when the German tactician’s spell at the club comes to an end.

Tuchel could find himself out of a job if he goes trophyless this campaign having already failed in both the DFL Supercup and DFB-Pokal, which will open the door to Xabi Alonso.

Bayern officials are believed to like Alonso’s attitude, his way of working, and his knowledge of Bayern Munich, where he spent the last three years of his playing career.

Bayern wants to take advantage of the fact that the other favorites willing to appoint Xabi Alonso have pulled out of the race.

Alonso likes the impression of continuing his career in the Bundesliga and one of his goals as a manager is to manage the three big clubs where he has previously represented as a player; Liverpool, Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

However, Bayern Munich could be his first major point of call in what would be a first test for Europe’s elite.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen would be reluctant to let that happen. They finally have a manager who can unlock the potential of a squad of regular underachievers.

Bayer Leverkusen ended the first half of the season unbeaten in all competitions under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, an accomplishment surpassing football lovers across the world.

According to the contract he signed with Leverkusen recently, Alonso would be willing to leave his project at Leverkusen should a call come from one of his former clubs, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, or Liverpool.

It wouldn't come inexpensive, but one of those clubs could certainly come knocking this summer as the Spaniard's good performance continues to increase.

What's next for Xabi Alonso?

The Spaniard will be seen in action again for Leverkusen when the German team will face Venezia on Sunday, January 7.
