BIRS arrests 8 suspected involved in illegal taxation in Benue State
The Benue State Internal Revenue Services, (BIRS) have arrested 8 suspects who are involved in illegal taxation in Benue State.
These suspects have been operating in the state and have been carrying out illegal taxations.
These suspects had blocked the road and pretended to be tax collectors and had been exploiting people in the area. This happened in Vandeikya and Konshisha Local Government Areas in Benue.
The BIRS Chairman’s Media Assistant revealed that those that were Ben eplited included business owners in the area as well as some transporters.
Recall not too long ago, Mr Emmanuel Agema who is the acting Chairman of BIRS, inaugurated a task force that is meant to cleanse the state of all illegal tax checkpoints.
This was also placed so that all illegal operators will be arrested. The arrest of these suspects is coming after this new implementation.
He revealed that these illegal tax operators had caused there to be double taxation on people who were doing business in the state.
He also revealed that there are specific Inspection/Monitoring Points across Benue state. The BIRS officers are these checkpoints also wear the BIRS reflective jackets so anyone who is caught in a different checkpoint will be arrested.
