Bola Tinubu, a former Lagos state governor, was declared the winner of the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary.
When he defeated his main opponents, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the Lagos state ex governor received half of all votes cast.
2,322 delegates from across the country flocked to Abuja's Eagles Square to determine the party's flag-bearer ahead of the 2023 general election.
Although Tinubu, who also serves as the party's national leader, received 1,271 votes, his main opponent was former governor of Rivers State and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who received 292 and 316 votes, respectively.
Ahmed Lawan, President of the Senate, received 140 votes, while Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State, received 42 votes. 23, applicants were successfully selected to participate in the primary.
Given the current situation, Tinubu will face former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and other party candidates for the top political position in the upcoming 2023 elections.
