The Federal College of Education in Yola has closed due to student unrest due to the lack of water around campus.

This emerged from a statement by the school administration when the uprising in Yola, capital of Adamawa state, threatened to escalate.

According to reports, the students rioted over the water shortage and the school administration responded by closing the school.

In his remarks, Registrar of the college Mallam Ahmad Gidado told reporters that the water shortage was caused by the failure of the main industrial well that supplies the entire school.

Mallam Gidado said management had already taken action when it learned of the challenge when it called on the Department of Labor and Services to address the issue.

He also said the Provost of the College ordered a water tank truck to deliver water after the industrial well collapsed but the students rioted.

The registrar added that the school will be closed until further notice to further reduce the breakdown of law and order.
