Bricklayer from Benin Republic arraigned in court for defrauding a woman of her property worth N10m


A bricklayer from Benin Republic has been arraigned before the court for defrauding a woman of her property which is worth N10 million.

This bricklayer is from Benin Republic but resides in Anambra state, Nigeria. He has been arraigned before a Nnobi Chief Magistrate Court which is located in Idemili South local government area in Anambra.

He defrauded a woman who has been identified as Miss Victoria Mbachu of her property worth millions. This property was an inherited property of her inherited property worth N10m.

This bricklayer had been under the pretense of a different identity, he had forged a Nigerian passport and got the name, Olufemi Salako.

He worked as a bricklayer at Nnobi; he allegedly had an accomplice who is a Native doctor. This man has been identified as Chijioke Okaa and he is 65 years old.

They committed the crime in July 2020 and fled after doing so. The police police declared him a wanted man.

The victim was living with this bricklayer and even had 2 children together. She was able to trick this bricklayer to return to Anambra so as to give evidence against the native doctor. When he ruled, he was arrested yesterday, Friday.

They stayed together in the hotel and he was reportedly joyful not knowing he old be arrested as well.

They then arranged him and read his charges against him. They said he committed a felony by inducing this woman to change a title document of her land in Okaa's favour.

He and Okaa conspired and promised this woman that they would build a house for her and help her and her children to relocate from her family compound.

They also tricked her saying the reason behind the numerous deaths in their family was because of the place they live and she quickly gave them the document.

The bricklayer, Olufemi Salako pleaded not guilty to all the charges that were read against him. The Chief Magistrate who is Ken Nwoye then granted Salako bail in the sum of N1.5 million. They also gave one surety who must be a native of the Nnobi community.

They revealed that they will verify the address of this surety before other actions.



They then adjourned the case to the 28th of July, 2023.
